TUNIS, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui on Thursday discussed with Foreign Minister of Libya's UN-backed government Mohamed Sayala the latest developments in the war-ravaged country as well as bilateral relations.

During a press conference at the foreign ministry headquarters in Tunis, Jhinaoui reiterated that Tunisia will continue its efforts with international players to find a solution to the crisis in Libya to end the bloodshed in the neighboring country.

He said that Tunisia is ready to positively deal with any initiative ending tension and clashes between the Libyan rival factions.

He added that Tunisia welcomes the efforts of the UN secretary-general's special representative for Libya Ghassan Salame to find a peaceful settlement to the Libyan crisis.

For his part, Sayala stressed that his visit to Tunisia was to inform officials of all developments in Libya.

Sayala's visit to Tunisia came amid military escalation and violent clashes around the capital Tripoli between the eastern-based army led by Khalifa Haftar and the UN-backed government.

Since April, the UN-backed government has been engaged in a deadly armed conflict against the eastern-based army, which is trying to take over the capital and overthrow the government.
