HARARE, May 28 (Xinhua) -- UN representative to Zimbabwe Bishow Parajuli, donors and other partners on Tuesday left Harare for Mutare to assess responses to the effects of Tropical Cyclone Idai and recovery needs in Manicaland province.

Parajuli said in a Twitter message that the team, which also includes officials from the UN family in Zimbabwe, will meet UN partners, non-governmental organizations and communities to assess the situation.

State institution the Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC) is currently offering psycho-social support to survivors of Cyclone Idai Chimanimani District, Manicaland.

Experts, including those from the UN, have called for survivors to be given psycho-social support in view of the trauma they went through as the cyclone ravaged their areas and left more than 300 people dead, affected an estimated 270,000 people and caused massive destruction to infrastructure in mid-March as Cyclone Idai ravaged the country March 15-16.

Zimbabwe said in April that it required at least 612 million U.S. dollars for food, shelter and reconstruction of other critical infrastructure following the devastation caused by the cyclone.
