KABUL, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Two Taliban militants were killed in an accident blast in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar, authorities said Monday.

"Two Taliban militants were carrying home-made bombs for planting along a dusty road in Zhwandai Adera locality of Argandab district, Kandahar province Monday evening. The explosive detonated prematurely, killing the two on the spot," provincial government said in a statement.

The victims were brothers and their bodies were shifted to a nearby village by local villagers in the province, 450 km south of Afghan capital of Kabul.

In eastern Logar province, a unit of Special Operation Police of Afghan National Police launched a raid and arrested a key Taliban leader named Fraydon in Zahid Abad village, Mohammad Agha district in wee hours of Monday, Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs said in a statement.

An AK-47 gun, a pistol and a binocular were seized and no shot was fired during the raid.

The arrestee was involved in planning and conducting terrorist attack, particularly laying ambush attacks against security forces long the Kabul-Logar road in the province, 60 km south of Kabul, the statement added.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make a comment on the reports.
