TRIPOLI, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- South Korean Embassy to Libya on Tuesday donated 500,000 U.S. dollars to a UN-supported education program in Libya's Misurata, the UN International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) announced.

The partnership extends for two years, and aims to improve education quality for some 5,000 girls and boys in Misurata, northwestern Libya, the UNICEF office in Libya said in a statement.

The South Korean donation will be used to rehabilitate three schools, provide school supplies and equipment, and support the children with non-formal education opportunities, recreational activities and life skills, it said.

The UNICEF program will also provide training for teachers and other education personnel to support vulnerable children affected by conflict and displacement.

Sungsoo Choi, South Korea's ambassador to Libya, said the donation would support Libyan children in need to continue to pursue their aspiration for a better future, adding that South Korea will continue to work together with Libyan and international partners to rebuild Libya.

Abdel-Rahman Ghandour, UNICEF special representative for Libya, said the organization is grateful for Seoul's support to children's education in Libya.
