WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Defense Department said here on Sunday that a U.S. soldier had died in an operation in Afghanistan.

According to a Pentagon's statement, Maj. Brent R. Taylor, 39, from Ogden, Utah, died on Nov. 3 in Kabul Province, Afghanistan.

He had been supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel and died "as a result of wounds sustained from small arms fire," said the announcement.

      The incident was under investigation.

Earlier in September, the Defense Department also identified at least two soldiers that had been killed while supporting Operation Freedom's Sentinel in Afghanistan.
