HONG KONG, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong is making great efforts Monday to clear roads and repair facilities so as to restore normal traffic after super typhoon Mangkhut hit.

Bus companies started running an increasing number of services on Monday afternoon, as roads were cleared of trees and other debris crashed down by Mangkhut.

Trains are providing limited service due to overhead line damage caused by fallen trees along the East Rail Line.

Piers also began to provide increasing services.

The Airport Authority Hong Kong said normal service will resume after a total of 889 flights were canceled on Sunday.

The super typhoon has brought severe damage to various parts of the public transport network and facilities, especially roads and piers.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government departments and public transport operators are working in full steam to restore traffic, including repairing road surfaces and traffic lights, clearing blocked roads to restore full public transport services as soon as possible.

Members of the public will no doubt be affected during the start of the working day, said a government spokesman on Monday.

"We hope the community understands and be patient. It inevitably takes some time for public transport service to resume normal," he said.

The government spokesman urges employers to be considerate and exercise flexibility in light of the difficulty faced by employees to go to work under such circumstances.
