      Jordan, Germany pledge continued efforts to eradicate terrorism

      AMMAN, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Jordan and Germany on Thursday stressed their support for continued efforts to achieve a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

      At a joint press conference in Amman between Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, the two reiterated their commitment to eradicating terrorism.

      Safadi stressed on Jordan's support to the Syrian refugees and to efforts to realize a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

      Noting that Jordan is home to 1.3 million Syrian refugees, the ministers said "We have exceeded our capacity, but we will continue to offer humanitarian assistance and at the same time we call on the international community to meet its own responsibility towards the refugees."

      Safadi stressed that his discussions with the German official also covered bilateral ties as well as cooperation in fields of defence, economy and trade exchange.

      The German minister said Jordan's role was key for realizing stability and security in the region.

      "We portray Jordan as a source of stability in the region and the cooperation between Jordan and Germany is of extreme importance to us," Maas said during the press conference.

      The two sides also stressed continued efforts to realize the two-state solution that leads to the creation of an independent Palestinian state at the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.

      Such a solution, they said, was the sole viable solution to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and achieve peace and stability in the Middle East.

      Also Thursday, Prince Feisal received the German official and discussed latest developments in the Middle East.

      The prince voiced Jordan's keenness on increased cooperation with Germany in various fields.

      Discussions also covered the pressure on Jordan due to hosting a large number of Syrian refugees.

      Talks also focused on the need to move forward with efforts to realize peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
